St Andrew’s Night Dinner Dance
The St Andrew’s Night Dinner Dance, due to be held this year on Saturday, 19 November, is generally reckoned to be the best Scottish evening in town (Milan).
It will again be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in San Donato Milanese, chosen for its hospitality (including special rates for those who want to stay the night), accessibility by car and excellent (free) parking facilities. Not to mention its unbeatable wooden dance floor.
The menu always has a distinct Scottish slant. This year’s still has to be decided, but to give you an idea it could well be:
Aperitif
Scottish Smoked Salmon
Scotch Broth
Roast Venison
Roast Potatoes and Mixed Vegetables
Bramble Fool
White & Red Wine
Coffee and Malt Whisky
The real highlight of the evening is what follows: two to three hours of Scottish Country Dancing (reels and jigs) to live music played, as usual,
by Michael Philip (accordion) and Paul Clancy (keyboards), flown in directly from Scotland for the occasion, together with our own Colin Jamieson (drums). We hope to have a Scottish bagpiper as well.
Last but not least, by popular acclaim, we are bringing back Lewis Barlow, one of the world’s greatest close-up magicians (from Edinburgh). He will no doubt astound us all yet again.
All this for €80 per head.

Each Week of Summer School gives dancers the opportunity to take part in classes, social dancing, a Ceilidh or two with the input of experienced teachers and great musicians, and of course to dance at our famous Younger Hall. Dancers stay in St. Andrews University and accomodation, food and social dances are all included in the price (with residential and non-residential options).
Last year we introduced ‘Junior Summer School’ (JSS) for those between 8-11 years old, which we are proud to say was a great success! Building on last year we are pleased to once again offer the programme in Week Three of Summer School 2017 for those looking to bring the wee ones along to learn how to Dance Scottish. Class times coincide with the adult classes – JSS starts a bit earlier and finishes a bit later so you can drop them off and still attend your own classes at Summer School.
In addition, our Music Course is increasingly popular with musicians of all ages taking part to learn the finer points of playing for Scottish Country Dancing. Teaching comes from some amazing band leaders who have played and taught worldwide.
The RSCDS Summer School offers something for everyone; whether you are a dancer or a musician, young or slighly older, we welcome you to St. Andrews to take part in our historic Summer School where fun, fitness and friendship can be felt in every step.

The event is open to Scottish country dancers who have attended the course on Scottish Country Dancing Course or who are proficient in the dances listed below.
The purpose of this course is to prepare participants for the very first Milan Highland Ball, to be held on Saturday, 26 May 2018 at the Hotel de la Ville directly in front of the Villa Reale in Monza. This is a formal dinner dance for which most of the tickets have already been sold.
Note that apart from Britannia Two-Step, these are Scottish country dances – not ceilidh dances. They will not be called or explained on the night. You will have to come knowing the dances already, because this is very much a dancers’ night.
